Trinity International University: Responding to the Need in Haiti

As news of the devastation in Haiti spread over the last several days, many people at TIU have been searching for a way for us to respond as a community to this dire crisis.  Over the last several years, we have developed an ongoing partnership with TouchGlobal, the crisis response team of the EFCA, through our responses to hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  We have found that our brothers and sisters at TouchGlobal are very effective ambassadors of the love and compassion of Christ in the midst of these kinds of crises.  We believe it is wise, therefore, to continue to direct our prayers, support, and resources toward their efforts at this critical  time.

So, how can we respond?

Pray
As we have already done in chapel, please continue to lift up the Haitian people and all of those responding to this disaster in prayer.  You can find up-to-the-minute prayer requests and updates at TouchGlobal's Haiti Response website: http://tiny.cc/EFCAHaiti

Give
Students will be collecting funds for Haiti in the lobby after TEDS chapel on Thursday, January 21 and TC chapel on Friday, January 22nd.  If you are unable to make it to either of those services, please feel free to drop off any donations to JoAnne Neumann in the chapel office.  Please make your check out to "EFCA" and include "#21709-3970" in the memo line.  You may also give online by clicking on the link above.

Go?
At this point, we do not have plans to send a TIU team to Haiti over Spring Break.  The needs in Haiti are so great, however, that there will certainly be a need for relief work for quite some time.  Any future trips will be announced in chapel and on MyTrinity.

Thank you for your desire to reach out and extend the love of Christ to the people of Haiti.  You may direct any questions you may have about this response to Graham Aitken in the Student Ministries office at gaitken@tiu.edu or 847.317.7034.  May God bless and multiply our small efforts in His name.

Grace and peace,

David P. Whited
